Thomas L. Vater, D.O., has been in private practice as an orthopedic spine surgeon in Las Vegas since 2000. He joined Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center in 2015.
Dr. Vater is fellowship trained in orthopedic trauma surgery and has managed trauma patients at Las Vegas’ University Medical Center’s Level I Trauma Center. Dr. Vater has also been involved in the training of orthopedic students, residents and fellows.
Dr. Vater was raised in Mexico City. He grew up with a bilingual education in Spanish and German and ultimately moved to the United States in his teenage years. His secondary education was completed at the University of Illinois with a bachelor's in biology and a minor in chemistry. Subsequently he entered medical school at the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, MO, and then completed in a rotating internship at Tulsa Regional Medical Center in OK. His residency in orthopedics was completed at Deaconess Medical Center with a pediatric externship at Children’s Hospital in Denver and trauma orthopedic surgery at University Medical Center. Dr. Vater entered a trauma orthopedic fellowship at University Medical Center subsequently completed a second fellowship in spine surgery, also at University Medical Center.
Dr. Vater’s practice currently includes the management of traumatic injuries, chronic or postsurgical deformity problems, neurologic deficits, as well as industrial injury claims and personal injury cases. His patient base is worldwide and includes international and local entertainers including performers from Cirque du Soleil productions.
Dr. Vater currently holds licensure in eight states - Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Missouri, Nevada and Utah.
