Dr. Arthur Taylor has completed a research study focusing on a non-surgical treatment for Dupuytren’s Contracture. Dupuytren’s contracture is a thickening of the fibrous tissue layer underneath the skin of the palm and fingers. Although painless, the thickening and tightening (contracture) of this fibrous tissue can cause the fingers to curl (flex). Patients involved in the study all presented with Dupuytren’s Contracture and had lost the use of one or multiple fingers. The study focused on the use of XIAFLEX, a prescription medicine used to treat adults with Dupuytren’s contracture when a “cord” can be felt. The enzymes in XIAFLEX break down collagen in the cord, which allows the physician to break the cord and straighten the affected finger the following day. The procedure was non-surgical and was completed in the doctor’s office at Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center.

Dr. Taylor began his study of Dupuytren’s Contracture in 1993 while completing his residency and Hand Fellowship at State University of New York, Stonybrook University Hospital. He continues to advocate for treatment options in his practice at Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
