Don’t Wait To See A Doctor For Severe Back Pain

Apr 06, 2021
We all experience some type of back pain in our lives. We could have strained a muscle working in the garden, maybe attempting to play touch football like we were still eighteen, or sometimes just putting your socks on can cause back pain and ruin your day

We all experience some type of back pain in our lives. We could have strained a muscle working in the garden, maybe attempting to play touch football like we were still eighteen, or sometimes just putting your socks on can cause back pain and ruin your day. Most of the time we apply heat or cold to the area, rest, and take OTC anti-inflammatory meds, and the pain will usually subside. But what about severe back pain that doesn’t go away? If that happens, don’t wait to see a doctor.

Back Pain Is Sending You A Message

Every pain we have, minor or severe, is telling us something about our body. It could be the result of a sprain of either a ligament or a muscle, an inflammation, infection, osteoarthritis, lack of exercise, poor posture, or obesity. These are just a few common causes of back pain and you shouldn’t ignore the message. The pain could also be the result of something serious that needs immediate attention.

If pain doesn’t go away after treating it at home, and/or it becomes chronic, it’s time to see Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center.

Serious Symptoms You Should Never Ignore

If you have additional symptoms associated with your back pain, this is a sign something more serious could be going on.

Look out for the following symptoms in addition to your back pain:

severe back pain

Pain Down Your Leg

If you experience pain that runs down your leg and below the knee this could indicate something more serious than a sprain. You could have damaged a disk.

Pain After An Injury

If you have sustained a fall or some type of injury, it is best to be evaluated by a doctor, especially if you have swelling or redness on your back.

Numbness

If you have numbness, tingling or weakness in your legs, back, or anywhere in your body, make an appointment with Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center.

Losing Weight

If you are losing weight without trying, see your physician.

Pain That Gets Worse

If your back pain gets worse, especially when lying down, call your doctor. If it becomes worse in certain positions, it could signify something more serious.

Fever

Got a fever with your back pain? Call your doctor.

Unusual Trouble With Bowels Or Urination

This could be something quite serious, so make an appointment as soon as possible.

If your back pain is increasing instead of slowly improving, it’s time to see your doctor for a diagnosis.
