MEET THOMAS L. VATER, D.O.

Thomas L. Vater, D.O. joined Nevada Orthopedic and Spine Center in the year 2015. He has been in private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada since the year 2000 as an orthopedic spine surgeon. Dr. Vater is also Fellowship trained in orthopedic trauma surgery and has managed trauma patients at the UMC Level I Trauma Center. Since 2000, Dr. Vater has been involved in the training of orthopedic students, residents and fellows.

Dr. Vater was raised in Mexico City, Mexico. He grew up with a bilingual education in Spanish and German and ultimately moved to the United States in his teenage years. His upper education was completed at the University of Illinois with a Bachelor in biology and a minor in chemistry. Subsequently he entered medical school at the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Missouri and then completed in a rotating internship at Tulsa Regional Medical Center in Oklahoma. His residency in orthopedics was completed at Deaconess Medical Center with a pediatric externship at Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado and trauma orthopedic surgery at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Vater entered a trauma orthopedic fellowship at University Medical Center in Las Vegas and subsequently completed a second fellowship in spine surgery, also at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dr. Vater’s practice currently consists in the management of traumatic injuries, chronic or postsurgical deformity problems, neurologic deficits, as well as industrial injury claims and personal injury cases. His patient base is international, as well as national, including tourism and local talent, such as Cirque du Soleil performers.

Dr. Vater currently holds licensure in eight states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Missouri, Nevada, and Utah.
